Natacha Nisic - Effroi (Fright)

From June 10 to October 2, 2005

The exhibition is based on the interconnection of film and photographic documents which are the work of Natacha Nisic. Following visits to Auschwitz the artist (born in 1967) came back, haunted by an image: the stagnant water of a reservoir, toads rising violently from the surface like the resuscitated presence of the ashes of the deported…

A starting point for research on the invisible and the visible, the document and its value as proof, transposed into a reflection on the process of the image: the artist is in fact questioning the status of this strong image, as much as the possibility of responding to it or not: the film "is a response to the photographic act and to that which it arouses, like an inversion of the image process, a work in reverse. Of life returned to the surface of the water, returned to the pond and to what it contains.” Effroi is an exhibition where photographs and films interact, the film fixing "memory, that's to say that which escapes us".
