Résonances : Akio Suzuki - Ossip Zadkine

From 17th June to 3rd October 2004

Listening in order to see better: that is the guiding principle of the Musée Zadkine programme, within and outside the walls of the museum, for the summer of 2004, through the "Résonances" exhibition which presents the works of Ossip Zadkine on the theme of music, alongside an installation by Akio Suzuki in the studio.

A collection of sculptures by Zadkine, borrowed from the European collections, is assembled in the Museum like so many musical resonances inscribed in stone, wood and bronze.

Since the 1960s, the Japanese artist Akio Suzuki has studied sounds and worked on listening to them. He combines the plastic arts with music and architecture to explore the relationships between time, sound and space, through installations or performances. His invitation to the Musée Zadkine is in two parts: an exhibition in the sculptor’s workshop and an intervention taking place in the district of Montparnasse. So the public will be able to try out the amazing diversity of sound in an enclosed studio and an urban space.
