Three-quarter view portrait of Ossip Zadkine

Wounded in the arm during the First World War, he was forced to give up his initial trade as a carpenter and cabinetmaker. He then specialized in art photography and gained recognition for reproducing the works of his artist friends—some of whom, such as Henri Matisse and Constantin Brancusi, would go on to achieve fame. Zadkine posed for him on several occasions starting in the 1910s and entrusted him with photographing his sculptures.
